HEHR POWER SYSTEMS R1 AUXILIARY BATTERY CONTROLLER

The HPS-R1 Auxiliary Battery Controller solves the problem associated with using a single alternator to charge two or more batteries of like or different types. The module monitors the voltage of the auxiliary (or House) battery and, when it falls below a pre-set level, connects the battery to the alternator for charging. This connection is made via a solenoid and a green LED light to indicate the solenoid is activated. The electronic circuit uses a micro-controller to provide the "intelligence" and numerous features that safeguard against overcharging, undercharging, or undesired interaction between battery banks (cranking and house batteries). This device is available in two versions:

  1. The 10-97 version comes on a 10-inch heat sink and includes a 200-amp solenoid (continuous rating).
  2. The 10-98 version comes on a 5-inch heat sink with no solenoid. This gives a customer the option of using his own solenoid. If using your own solenoid, consideration must be given to the output rating of the alternator, the electrical loads on the system and the expected current draw of deeply discharged house batteries. The temperature rating of the solenoid must match the location chosen to mount it.

In either version, the customer has the ability to adjust the "CUT IN" and "CUT OFF" voltages to the auxiliary battery thus optimizing battery life based on its type and chemistry. This is done using a small screwdriver to turn two potentiometers that are exposed above the potting epoxy.
